As an online publisher and community supporter of writers, artists, musicians, and others, we decided to begin featuring one creative writer every week and one artist (of any medium or interpretation therein) every month. We hope our Feature Series provides opportunities for your work to be read, shared, enjoyed, and loved by our readers. It is our hope that the honor that comes with being featured here provides you the confidence and motivation to pursue publication and recognition elsewhere. (For a list of work and publications we find inspiring, click here.) The Feature Series is also a way for us to work toward resolving cultural and societal issues by voicing the concerns, experiences, and solutions our featured writers and artists possess.
Here at SkipFiction, we focus on real-world events, people, and places. With this in mind, we ask that all work you submit be true (whatever that means to you). We’ll accept essays, stories, poems, photo essays, and any other form (or genre blend) you think is suitable. Just make sure that it can be categorized as non-fiction.
SkipFiction will consider publishing previously published work as long as the journal, magazine, website, or other publication where it first appeared is given credit. This means you have to let us know where it first appeared. That being said, we prefer new work from you. We want to be home to current writing and art from our community! Simultaneous submissions are okay. Just notify us if your piece(s) is/are accepted elsewhere. By submitting any work to SkipFiction, you agree that your submission is your original work and that you hold the rights to publish it with us.
Include a short, third-person bio with your submission. We will gladly include links to your past and upcoming publications in your bio, so include the URLs. Need help writing a bio? Here‘s a thorough, slightly humorous guide to help you out (photos included).
POETRY: Send up to 6 poems in the body of an e-mail or as .doc or .pdf attachments to email@example.com. Please use the subject line: “SkipFiction Submission: Poetry.” You can also upload them here.
